Carlos A. Salgado, MD
Child-Adolescent and Forensic Psychiatry
Carlos A. Salgado, MD is experienced in the psychiatric evaluation and treatment of children, adolescents, adults, and families. He divides his professional time between medical education, clinical service, and forensic consultation. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral at the FIU-Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Furthermore, he is the founding Training Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Citrus Health Network.
Dr. Salgado provides clinical care and forensic consultation. He has provided expert review and testimony of medical-legal cases in criminal matters, federal court, family court, immigration and asylum issues, veterans’ affairs, and civil litigation. He provides extensive training on matters related to children and adolescents that have experienced trauma and are involved in the child welfare system.
Dr. Salgado is a clinician-educator with scholarly work focusing on child and adolescent forensic psychiatry, psychotropic medication use in child welfare populations, healthcare disparities, and wellness in clinical learning environments. He has extensive experience in the development, management, and expansion of graduate medical education programs. He has held leadership positions in community-based health organizations and educational programs. Dr. Salgado has provided clinical and forensic consultations nationally and internationally.
Dr. Salgado has been an invited speaker and presenter at local and national meetings on various topics within child-adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. He has collaborated on scientific articles and book chapters.
Dr. Salgado is triple board certified in general psychiatry, child-adolescent psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He trained at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and the Yale University Law and Psychiatry Division in New Haven, Connecticut. He is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He attended the University of Miami for his undergraduate studies, and received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
